Welcome to my kitchen! My name is Rachel and I’m the food content creator behind the blog Plate on Purpose. This blog is my place to share what my kitchen experience is like and I’m grateful to have you here!
Meet Rachel from Plate on Purpose
I’m a wife and mother to a beautiful little girl. I’m proud to say I’m a homemaker but I do work outside the home as well.
I’ve spent my life living in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by the evergreen trees and the majestic mountains. If you live here, you know about the wet winters. If you’re not from here, imagine a long rainy season with lots of dark clouds. (Thankfully, we do have a lovely summer season and colorful autumn.) During some of those rainy days spent indoors I found a passion for creating homemade goodies in my kitchen.
Yet, baking and cooking was only part of it. I soon realized what you ate played a major role in your health. It became clear that certain foods would make my stomach ache while other foods didn’t seem to fill me up. I began to look for foods that tasted good and supplied my body with key nutrients. This new approach has been in the making for years and I’m still honing my skills. I can now say that my body has shown its appreciation for the diet changes as I’ve seen improvements with my eczema.
This lifestyle change has become a passion of mine that I’m proud to share with you through this blog Plate on Purpose. The lessons and recipes in this blog are examples of what our family of 3 eats and how I look to purposefully fill our plates. Intentional eating is the name of the game and I invite you to play along with us!
Questions you might have…
- Why did you start this blog?
I started this blog to start sharing my journey with food and give people a different approach to food. With each recipe, I try to focus on a star ingredient for health. I’ve found by learning how to cook foods a certain way or how to pair them with other foods, the plate I serve to myself and my family finds a greater purpose. It’s important to know the why behind healthy eating because it gives you knowledge in feeding your family nutritious food to satisfy their heart and their hunger.
- What kind of recipes do you share? Keto? Paleo? Gluten Free?
Plate on Purpose is a place where food is embraced. Cutting out food groups or avoiding whole food ingredients isn’t the way I see healthy eating. God has made so many wonderful foods and it’s something to celebrate! Yet in this day and age, I do acknowledge the unique health circumstances people of all walks of life face. With that in mind, I do specify if a recipe is friendly to a certain lifestyle. Below are the types of recipes you will see if you re one of those unique individuals.
- Keto
- Paleo
- THM or Trim Healthy Mama
- Gluten Free
- Dairy Free
- Nut Free
- Are you on social media?
Yes! Please go on over to Instagram and Facebook to follow, like and share these recipes with your friends and family.
- Favorite food?
My ultimate meal would be an ice tea-lemonade drink, a medium-rare ribeye with garlic butter shrimp, a roasted veggie medley and a dutch apple pie with french vanilla ice cream for dessert.
- Do you prefer cooking or baking?
BAKING! The science behind baking has always fascinated me. Repetition became a very important skill for me to practice because of spending time in the kitchen with my grandma. She was one of the classic, inventive cooks who just cooked with her eyes. Her food was always delicious but when I would ask her what the recipe was, she wouldn’t remember the steps or how much of the ingredients she used. All of this has made me much more comfortable with the demands baking sometimes presents due to my goal of baking recipes consistently.
